Mall project demonstrates Hunter Douglas’s innovative multi-panel system

Hunter Douglas’s expertise in the design and manufacture of complex metal linear ceilings has been demonstrated once again at a major £5 million shopping centre refurbishment in the south of England.

The Mall in Maidstone underwent a 12-month modernisation programme that comprises new contemporary flooring, new ceiling and lights, and a new treatment of pillars, plus updated entrances.

Hunter Douglas was specified for the £200,000 ceiling project, key to which is a herringbone pattern in a range of colours. Architect William Lee at ESA Ltd selected the pattern in 30BD, choosing four complementary colours, RAL 9010/1035/1036/2013, to create an eyecatching design that reflected the modern feel of the upgraded shopping centre.

Juliette Halliday, National Sales Manager for Hunter Douglas Architectural Products, said the ceiling project also showcased the company’s expertise in baffle systems.

It works well for larger sites such as conference centres, airports and sports stadia, as well as office, healthcare and retail settings. “Because it is so versatile, we were able to use a standard system and adapt to a bespoke design and colour option for the specifier,” said Juliette.

“The result is a very aesthetically pleasing ceiling.” The complexity of the design meant that the setting out of the ceiling, undertaken by Roskel Contracts Ltd, had to be carefully considered so that it remained true to the architect’s vision.

Roskel, the installation contractor, completed the work within two months.
