UK prestige projects feature in Hunter Douglas glossy book

A glossy coffee table book has been published, featuring dozens of innovative and striking building projects that Hunter Douglas, the international leader in architectural building products, has helped to create.

New Impressions contains images of 81 incredible schemes stretching from Abu Dhabi to Sweden and North America to Russia.

Among them are the $413 US million Kauffman Center for Performing Arts in Kansas, for which Hunter Douglas produced custom-engineered roller shutters, and the €21.47 million ZAC Chalbre training complex in Paris, for which it fitted facades of TERRART® Baguettes that resemble bamboo latticework.

The high quality book also features three prestige projects in the United Kingdom.

The first is the wood and Unigrid ceiling at the award-winning Library of Birmingham, England, which opened in September 2013 at a cost of £188.3 million. Hunter Douglas created a bespoke solid wood ceiling system using African Ayous and a floating ceiling in black and white. It remains one of the most prestigious timber-based projects that the company has undertaken in the UK.

The Haven Point in South Shields is also highlighted. This stunning leisure complex in the north of England comprises 21,600 individually prepared terracotta elements, using NBK TERRART® large and Custom elements.

And at The Pavillion – a residential property in Coldingham Bay, Scotland – Hunter Douglas created a solid wood linear open ceiling in western red cedar.

Inside this beautiful home, the wood is interspaced with black non-woven felt to provide some acoustic absorption, while externally a powder-coated black metal infill was used to both prevent damage from wildlife and to provide durability.

David Harris, general manager of Hunter Douglas, said: “When you see the breadth of the projects that Hunter Douglas is involved with, it is quite astonishing. Last year, across the group, the company completed more than 5,000 projects in 24 countries.

“We’ve helped with the creation and development of some incredible buildings and this book highlights just some of the best. I’m proud that three of our UK schemes are included because they demonstrate the sheer craftsmanship and skill that goes into buildings such as these

“We hope that architects and specifiers will be inspired by our innovative ideas about ceilings, solar control and cladding.”
